At Ammon Creative, we thrive on capturing moments that celebrate history, community, and innovation. Photographing the unveiling of Channel 9 Perth’s 60-year exhibition at WA Museum Boola Bardip was an opportunity to document a significant milestone in Western Australia’s media landscape.
Channel 9 Perth aimed to commemorate six decades of broadcasting, showcasing their evolution and impact on the WA community. Our objective was to capture the exhibition’s launch, highlighting the nostalgic elements, the attendees’ reactions, and the overall atmosphere of the event.
We arrived early to familiarise ourselves with the exhibition layout, ensuring we could effectively capture the vintage equipment displays, archival footage, and interactive installations. Given the variety of lighting conditions, from the dimly lit exhibition spaces to the vibrant projections on the Museum’s Old Gaol, we adjusted our equipment settings accordingly to maintain image clarity and authenticity.
One of the standout features was the display of Channel 9 Perth’s first studio camera and the Steenbeck flatbed editing suite, offering a tangible connection to the station’s early days. Capturing attendees’ interactions with these artefacts provided candid moments of reflection and nostalgia. The nightly projections on the Museum’s Old Gaol added a dynamic visual element, and we ensured to photograph these illuminations, capturing the blend of history and modern technology.
WA Museum Boola Bardip’s team was instrumental in facilitating our work, providing insights into the exhibition’s design and flow. The venue’s architectural features and thoughtful lighting design enhanced our compositions, allowing us to frame shots that encapsulated the event’s significance.
