For the fourth consecutive year, we had the privilege of photographing the Chinese New Year Reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO). This annual event is a highlight on the calendar, bringing together distinguished guests from political, business, media, and community sectors to celebrate the Lunar New Year and strengthen Hong Kong’s ties with Australia and New Zealand.

A Celebration of Culture and Connection
Held at the iconic Duxton Hotel Perth, the event welcomed esteemed guests, including Mr Ricky Chong, Director of HKETO Sydney; Mr LONG Dingbin, Consul-General of China; and David Michael MLA, representing the Hon. Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia. With a beautifully refurbished ballroom featuring state-of-the-art LED lighting and high-definition screens, the setting provided a sophisticated yet warm atmosphere befitting the occasion.

A Night of Festivities and Networking
The evening commenced with an elegant reception as guests arrived to reconnect and engage in conversations about trade, business, and cultural collaborations. The arrival of the Guests of Honour signalled the beginning of the formal proceedings.
A stunning lion dance performance enthralled attendees, setting an energetic and festive tone. Shortly after, the Master of Ceremonies introduced the speakers, who reflected on the longstanding relationship between Hong Kong and Australia, emphasising shared values such as free trade, rule of law, and multiculturalism.

Mr Ricky Chong, in his welcoming remarks, highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a ‘super connector’ with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Mainland China. He underscored the unprecedented opportunities for Australian businesses to expand and collaborate in the region, reinforcing the importance of ongoing engagement and partnership.
Following the speeches, the Guests of Honour and VIPs were invited on stage for a traditional toasting ceremony and group photo, symbolising unity and prosperity for the year ahead. A lucky draw added an element of excitement, ensuring guests were engaged throughout the evening before the event concluded.
