PETS "PAW-TRAIT" PHOTOGRAPHY
by ammon creative
At Ammon Creative, we are passionate about capturing unique and powerful bonds between pets and their people! We have been photographing families for over six years, and believe that our animals are an essential part of the pack. Our knowledge, patience and calm nature ensures happy clients and a great experience for everyone, with a relaxed, often candid style.
With a background in veterinary science, plus dog breeding & showing, Jess understands how hyper-sensitive animals can be to human emotions and has a natural ability to connect with animals of all shapes and sizes. She donates her time (and some of our pet's times) on a weekly basis to aged care homes offering pet therapy sessions - ensuring each person and pet end the day with a full heart.
Pet photography sessions are another expansion to share the love and celebrate what makes your pet unique! From the young to the old, small to the big, lazy to the energetic, and everything in-between, this session is all about capturing the spirit and personality of your pet; to always remember the wonderful little things that make them special.
We specialise in natural light pet portraits and can be held at your home, at your pet’s favourite park, or at one of the many beautiful locations that we can suggest. You are also welcome to meet us at our studio location in Bayswater.

Best friend a social bonus

Animal therapy volunteer Jess Ammon visits Baptistcare Gracewood, in Salter Point, every week with her two- year-old dachshund Leia.
“Everyone looks forward to Leia’s visits,” Gracewood’s lifestyle co-ordinator Claudia Becerra says. “Even our residents who are shy and usually keep to themselves will come out to pat her and reminisce about dogs they had in their youth.
“Leia has been a great catalyst for social interaction, which is beautiful to see.”
Ms Ammon, who runs a photography business with her husband, has four dogs at home but believes Leia, a black-and-tan dappled piebald dachshund, is the only one with the right disposition to be a therapy dog. “She sleeps in a bassinet in our bedroom because that’s where we had her as a puppy and is very placid,” she says. “We’ve only been doing this for a couple of months here but she’s certainly trying to pick her friends — one day she just shoved open a door to go inside a room.
“We visit the dementia support unit and while the patients don’t always remember her, she remembers them.”

Ms Ammon started the Gracewood round because she missed her grandparents in the US. Her grandmother has Alzheimer’s and her grandfather, who just died, had dementia.
“I was really close to them, so felt I’d lost connection to the older generation when I came to Australia,” she says.
Resident Elizabeth Elliott, from Yorkshire in the UK, looks forward to the visits because she always had dogs at home.
“Mostly mongrels,” she says. “I’ve been at Gracewood for at least 12 years and it’s an adventure for me. Leia is lovely; very friendly.”
Ms Becerra says residents love animals, pets and children. A Clydesdale horse sometimes visits for therapy sessions and preschoolers have an intergenerational playgroup on site every second Friday.
Patricia Sparrow, chief executive of Aged & Community Services Australia, says some facilities have their own in-house cats, dogs and birds. “I’ve seen country places with chooks, a goat and a pig,” she says.
